Why These Three Pillars Are Our Main Focus In Our Blog

    Our three main pillars

Find out why these three pillars are our main focus in our travel blog.

The three main pillars which we want to base our travel blog around, are: wildlife, travel and nature.

As you may have read in our previous blog, “Welcome to our travel blog”, tourism has been a big part of our lives for some time now.

“We aim to educate and promote responsible tourism throughout our travel blog journey”

1.) Life as a travel consultant

Working in the travel industry allowed me to learn about various destinations, property groups and accommodation types throughout Southern Africa and around the world.

My main responsibility in the travel industry was reservations for Southern Africa and South Africa.  But safari reservations would always stand out to me, because I always had a fun time planning those travel itineraries.  Thinking about all the properties while writing this blog post, makes me want to mention all of them! Let’s just say there are so many options!

    Educational experience

When your job is to sell all these fabulous properties, all you want to do is visit them!  Sitting at your desk dreaming all day….. Thankfully there are amazing opportunities within the travel industry to view properties and go on educationals – those are real fun!  Meeting the travel agents and properties that you work with each day and getting to establish relationships outside of the workplace, made your role in travel more enjoyable.

One amazing opportunity that I clearly remembering visiting on an educational, is Bushmans Kloof. I  have always wanted to travel to this magical oasis in the Cederberg region.  If you are thinking of a retreat, consider booking a night or two here.

    2.) Wildlife poaching and conservation

Wildlife poaching has always been something that we have known about, and heard about in the media.  Especially the time period when rhino poaching was real real bad.  Not that it isn’t around anymore, or maybe it is the fact that we don’t hear about all the incidents, and are not exposed to the reality of these attacks, but you tend to forget the severity of these acts on our wildlife.

    Volunteer

In 2015 I decided to volunteer at a wildlife conservation centre, close to the Kruger National Park.  As mentioned before, I was always aware of wildlife poaching, but nothing can prepare you for first hand experience when you get called to help with two rhino poaching incidents in the space of two weeks!

Without a doubt, the rawness is also something that I will never forget.  Imagine this, one minute you are sitting around the fire relaxing, and then the next you are within metres witnessing a rhino calf, fighting to stay alive.

Despite what the rangers go through, there are many instances where calves die due to the outdoor elements.  The lucky ones that are found, are nonetheless give a second chance of life.

    Our goal

We aim to create content about wildlife poaching on our platform.  Firstly so that we can bring awareness and educate.  Secondly to showcase the reality of poaching.

    3.) Natural beauty

Being surrounded by any form of nature is where you will find us hanging out often.  There is just something that is so soul refreshing, above all allows you to slow down and just enjoy being present.  Luckily for us, being in Cape Town, we have an abundance of options throughout our country.  Beach, bush, mountain – you will always manage to find one of these options, without having to travel too far.

We aim to educate and promote responsible tourism throughout our travel blog journey and most importantly, hope to meet amazing like minded travellers along the way!
